United States telecom giant AT&T unexpectedly backed down from its offer to buy Telecom Italia, Italy's largest telecom company. Media tycoon and former premier Silvio Berlusconi is now being linked with TI. According to reports appearing in the country's main newspapers Tuesday, Berlusconi is preparing to mount a bid for TI along with Roberto Colaninno, a fellow entrepreneur.
