Open Invention Network, a U.S. firm funded by six companies including IBM and Red Hat, is exploring possibilities in India to spur innovation and protect the Linux systems widely seen as a slow but certain challenge to Microsoft's proprietary Windows operating system. OIN is an intellectual property company that was formed in 2005 by IBM, NEC, Philips, Red Hat, Sony and Novell.
