Since the fossilized "Gilboa stumps" were discovered in the 1870s in Schoharie County, they have enchanted generations of visitors to the old State Museum with their bulbous and veined bulk. Now, two State Museum employees have filled in the gaps of knowledge about the 380 million-year-old, palm-like tree.
